WELCOME

Welcome to St. Margaret's, and to the Christian Community which has worshipped here for almost one hundred years.

The Church is dedicated in honour of Margaret, Queen of Scotland, who building on the foundations of Ninian, Columba and Mungo transformed and renewed the Christian Community of her day.

Margaret was a woman of prayer, of practical caring, of deep commitment whose love for God was made manifest in her love for His people.

From the very beginning the people who raised up this great House of Prayer, and those who have come after them, have sought to follow her example.

They, like Margaret, have attempted to say 'yes' to God and His call: to love, to serve, to care, both in this community and in the wider world by seeking to live out the Good News of the Gospel in their daily living.

To date thirty-six Parish Clergy, three Deans, and five Bishops have been produced by the Congregation, enormous sums of money have been raised for Mission both at home and overseas, and huge numbers of Lay People have committed themselves to the caring agencies of the Church, at every level and in every generation.

This has come about because those who have worshipped here, have waited upon God's Word, have celebrated His Sacraments, and have discovered, not only, that they believed in God, but that God believed in them, that He had a plan for them and their lives. They encountered Him here, and responded to that encounter with a generous heart.

I hope that as you come to share in our Common Life, you too will encounter the Living God: that you will hear His Word, celebrate His Sacraments, and know with us that you are His, that you are; a Child of God, a Member of the Body of Christ, an Inheritor with us of the Kingdom of Heaven.

It is our prayer that as you experience His love for you in this place, and in this community, so you will come to know Him better, to love Him more, and to serve Him with a more perfect will.

May the Lord be with you, and may His peace be yours today.
